Internet heeft over de jaren veel veranderd in het onderwijs. In deze infographic vind je de grootste mijlpalen van technologische ontwikkeling in het klaslokaal.

Volgens de informatie van Mashable is de online learning industrie 34 miljard dollar waard. En deze groeit met “astronomische snelheid”.

De Technische Universiteit Delft vermindert de studielast van haar opleidingen. Delen van vakken worden geschrapt. Sommige vakken verdwijnen zelfs in hun geheel. De universiteit wil dat studenten hun studie sneller doorlopen. De studenten zelf vrezen dat de kwaliteit zal afnemen.

‘Als er delen van vakken verloren gaan, hoeven studenten minder te leren om een diploma te halen’, zegt Wouter Verbeek, vicevoorzitter van de Delftse studentenvakbond. ‘Het schaven aan en het schrappen van vakken maakt de studie minder waard. Er zullen minder goede ingenieurs afstuderen, terwijl het bedrijfsleven juist zo tevreden is.’

Kwaliteit
De opleiding lucht- en ruimte­vaarttechniek maakte de plannen als eerste concreet. De studielast moet met 15 procent krimpen. Dat wat niet essentieel is, moet eruit. ‘Duurzame ontwikkeling’ sneuvelde al. Toch denkt onderwijsdirecteur Aldert Kamp niet dat de kwaliteit in het geding is. ‘We hadden de studie net opnieuw ingericht. Maar de docenten waren zo enthousiast dat de vakken soms te vol zijn geworden. Die overtollige ballast gooien we nu weer overboord.’

Een andere flinke verandering is dat studenten in de toekomst een onvoldoende mogen compenseren met een voldoende voor een ander vak. Kamp: ‘Het niveau gaat dan naar beneden. Maar de vraag is of je een slechte ingenieur bent als je voor één vak een 5 haalt.’

De boosdoener van het beleid dat de TU Delft voert is volgens de studentenvakbond Halbe Zijlstra. De staatssecretaris van Onderwijs pleit voor een verhoging van het ‘studiesucces’: studenten moeten sneller afstuderen en de uitval moet omlaag. Universiteiten leggen zich in afspraken met de staatssecretaris vast op streefcijfers en krijgen minder geld als ze die niet halen.



Langzaamste van het land
Delftse studenten zijn de langzaamste van het land. Slechts een kwart weet in vier jaar tijd een bachelordiploma te behalen, terwijl daar drie jaar voor staat. Tegelijkertijd staan de opleidingen aan de technische universiteiten erom bekend dat ze zwaar en moeilijk zijn.

Daarom houden nu alle faculteiten van de TU Delft hun onderwijsprogramma’s tegen het licht. ‘De universiteit staat met haar rug tegen de muur’, zegt studentenvakbondsman Verbeek. ‘Het programma moet wel inkrimpen, want studenten doen nu gemiddeld zeven jaar over hun studie. Dat is te lang, er staat hen een boete te wachten.’

Only a few weeks ago, I wrote a blog about the changes the authorities are implementing for students.
For us, limiting the scholarship to only bachelor students was already a big shock!

But since today it seems that the scholarship all together is in danger!!

Our government is seriously considering changing the scholarship into a “sociaal leenstelsel” (social loan system).

This means students no longer receive a monthly payment, but have to loan the money from the government. When they have a job, they have to pay it all back.

The “sociaal leenstelsel” is estimated to save the government 800 million euros. Political partys VVD, PvdA, D66 and Groenlinks all support the plan. They agree that the student has to invest in his/her own future. CDA and PPV still want to continue the scholarship, though CDA says: “In this time of recession, we can’t rule out anything..”

- Avoid getting bogged down by thinking of all possibilities when answering questions

Are you a left brain thinker?

Then probably work with a To-Do list. You like to be the critic in class. You’re good at math or science, You are rational and logical. Your research is precise and well-documented. You set goals for yourself. You can interpret information well. Your room is orderly. You follow directions and you do read directions. You can listen to a long lecture without losing patience. You read sitting up. Your words are precise.

You should focus on:
- Study in a quiet and organized room
- Take advantage of your skills in math and science
- Choose non-fiction reading
- You prefer factual questions and assignments, as opposed to open-ended questions
- You can organize your notes well, so you should
- Work alone when you have a choice.

Use both sides!
Most individuals have a distinct preference for one of these styles of thinking. Some, however, are more whole-brained and equally adept at both modes. In general, schools tend to favor left-brain modes of thinking, while downplaying the right-brain ones. Children learn to use only the left side of the brain while studying. The right-brain is suppressed. But to use your whole brain, it is important to give equal weight to both sides of the brain.

A great way to stimulate the right side of your brain, is to use mind maps. If you create a mind map of your learning material, you activate the “creative” right part of your brain, as well as the left part. This way you double the capacity of the brain.. imagine what effect this will have on your grades!
